The importance of safety in scaffolding projects
In the majority of large construction projects, scaffolding is an essential part, providing support and access to workers who perform tasks at elevated heights.
There are, however, inherent risks associated with working at heights, and therefore, working on scaffolding.
This means that ensuring safety in scaffolding projects is critical to protect the workers and adhere to legal regulations. At Everlast Group, we are committed to upholding the highest safety standards in all our scaffolding operations.
Scaffolding safety protocols
Ensuring safety in scaffolding projects requires a set of protocols to be followed. Each of these protocols has been specifically designed to minimise risk.
Here are some of the essential safety measures:
Planning and design – Every scaffolding project begins with a thorough planning and design stage. This includes conducting site surveys to assess potential hazards and ensuring the scaffolding structure is designed to meet the specific requirements of the project.
Inspections – Scaffolding must be inspected before each use, after any modifications, and regularly throughout the project. These inspections should be carried out by qualified personnel to identify and rectify any issues that could compromise safety.
Materials – Only high-quality materials and components should be used in scaffolding construction. This includes ensuring all parts meet industry standards and are free from defects.
Fall protection systems – Implementing fall protection systems such as guardrails, safety nets, and personal fall arrest systems is crucial to prevent accidents.
Load management – Ensuring the scaffolding can support the intended load, including workers, tools, and materials, is essential. Overloading scaffolding can lead to catastrophic failures.
Access – Safe scaffolding access must be provided, this includes the use of ladders, stair towers, and ramps that are secure and properly maintained
Scaffolding safety training and certification
The foundation of a safe scaffolding project lies in the expertise of the personnel involved. At Everlast Group, we prioritise the training and certification of our workers to ensure they possess the necessary skills and knowledge.
Our staff are trained in a variety of industry-specific areas including: CISRS Labourers, Part 1, Part 2, Advanced Scaffolders, Advanced Scaffold Inspections, Scaffold Supervision, SSSTS, SMSTS, IOSH Managing Safely, IOSH Directing Safely, Enhanced DBS, IPAF, Asbestos Awareness, First Aid, Pull Test Training, Transport Management, NEBOSH General, Construction and Environmental Training, Fire Warden Training, Mental Health First Aid, Manual Handling Training, Harness and Lanyard Inspections, Forklift Training, Abrasive Wheels.

Project details – Protective scaffold
- Erection of a protective scaffold to encase the Grade II Estates Building throughout the survey and subsequent renovation works.
- Everlast was appointed to the project by Kirklees Council and Heritage England and worked with Creator Scaffold Designs to design and build the complex scaffold structure.
- Following Heritage England’s survey, we implemented a series of modifications to the scaffolding as instructed by HH Smith, appointed main contractor for the restoration.Discover more about our role in this project.
